SOLAL Ashwagandha 60
Ashwagandha is a traditional Indian (Ayurvedic) herbal extract that helps reduce stress and promote calm. It is sometimes referred to as Indian Ginseng because it also boosts energy levels. Ashwagandha also helps treat low thyroid function and may protect the immune system. KSM-66® ashwagandha is rich in prebiotic fructooligosaccharides along with essential amino acids, vitamin A, calcium and iron. KSM-66® ashwagandha extract is prepared without using alcohol or chemical solvents and it contains the highest percentage of withanolides available in South Africa.
Ashwagandha is a traditional Indian (Ayurvedic) herbal extract that helps reduce stress and promote calm. It is sometimes referred to as Indian Ginseng because it also boosts energy levels. Ashwagandha also helps treat low thyroid function and is also a powerful immune system protector.
Ashwagandha contains several active constituents including alkaloids (isopelletierine, anaferine), steroidal lactones (withanolides, withaferins), and saponins. Some of the withanolides are structurally similar to ginsenosides from ginseng. Research suggests that ashwagandha has a variety of pharmacological effects including analgesic, antipyretic, anxiolytic, immunomodulatory, sedative, hypotensive, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant effects. It also seems to stimulate respiratory function, cause smooth muscle relaxation, and stimulates thyroid synthesis and secretion.
Ashwagandha’s “anti-stressor” effect is attributed to research suggesting that it suppresses stress induced increases of dopamine receptors in the corpus striatum in the brain. It also appears to reduce stress-induced increases of plasma corticosterone, blood urea nitrogen, and blood lactic acid. Ashwagandha also seems to have anxiolytic effect, possibly by acting as a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) mimetic agent. The withanolides and sitoindosides seem to cause the mobilisation of macrophages, phagocytosis and lysosomal enzymes, thereby leading to immunomodulatory effects. Ashwagandha has been reported to stimulate thyroid function and increase serum T4 concentrations.

Benzodiazepines: Theoretically ashwagandha may increase the effects of benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines include diazepam, clonazepam, alprazolam, flurazepam, lorazepam, midazolam and others.
CNS Depressants: Theoretically, ashwagandha’s sedative effect may potentiate the effects of barbiturates.
Immunosuppressants: Theoretically, ashwaghandha might decrease the effectiveness of immunosuppressant therapy because of its potentially immunostimulating effects.
Autoimmune disease: Ashwagandha may have immunostimulant effects and should therefore be used with caution in those suffering with autoimmune diseases.
Surgery: Ashwagandha has CNS depressant effects. Theoretically ashwagandha might cause additive CNS depression when combined with anesthesia and other medications during and after surgical procedures. Ashwagandha should be discontinued 10-days before any elective surgery.
